SHOCKTOBER RETURNS PT II - The Lodger (1944)
Tuesday Oct 19, 2021
Tuesday Oct 19, 2021
"Were horror movies even scary in the olden days?" asks the plebe. The cinephile sheds a single tear. I mean, this one isn't really. Maybe like a two or three on the spook-o-meter. But it's good! Shadows! Fog! A very gullible lady! All the elements are there.

SHOCKTOBER RETURNS PT I - Trick or Treat (aka Ragman)(1986)

Monday Oct 04, 2021
Oh, hello, creeps! It’s that time of fear again: welcome to the return of Shocktober—or, in this case, Rocktober! Mike’s first up with the 1986 heavy-metal horror film, Trick or Treat. What did we all think of this largely forgotten, low-budget spookfest co-starring Ozzy Osborne and Gene Simmons and picked by notorious prankster Mike? The answer may sur-dies boo.

39) Disney Channel Original Movies Pt. III - Halloweentown (1998)
Thursday Sep 16, 2021
Thursday Sep 16, 2021
What can be said about a TV movie you saw over 20 years ago and didn't rewatch for this episode because you weren't involved in the recording? Well, not a whole lot, so here's the Google synopsis: "Marnie and her kids get a big shock when they follow grandma home to Halloweentown - and find out they come from a family of witches. The town is the only place where supernatural beings can lead a `normal' life, but trouble is looming, and on her 13th birthday Marnie not only finds she is a witch, but that she and her family are involved in a fight against the evil that is threatening to take over the world."

37) Disney Channel Original Movies Pt. I - Wish Upon a Star (1996)
Tuesday Aug 10, 2021
Tuesday Aug 10, 2021
Kit and Mike ditch Andrew like he never meant anything to them to talk about some movie that I can barely bother to remember the title of so I will just post the synopsis: A younger sister wishes to switch places with her popular older sister and the two bickering siblings awaken to find the wish has come true.

36) Out of the World Pt. III - Nightbeast (1982)
Monday Jul 26, 2021
Monday Jul 26, 2021
Nightbeast provided J.J. Abrams with his first screen credit. Shockingly, this was not director Don Dohler’s first screen credit; he had previously directed two features, a factoid far scarier than any of the alien action in this, his third film. One of the taglines for Nightbeast was “The Sci-Fi Thriller Made in Baltimore!” That’s the most enticing thing they could put on the poster without lying.

35) Out of the World Pt. II - Invaders from Mars (1953)
Thursday Jul 15, 2021
Thursday Jul 15, 2021
On this out-of-this-world episode, we’re talking proto-sci-fi classic Invaders from Mars. This is a film full of contradictions: a B movie by literally the world’s first production designer and de-facto director of Gone with the Wind; wildly original while relying heavily on stock footage; and a Cold War era fable about Americans coming together to defeat a foreign enemy that ends by implying they accomplished nothing. Kind of like this podcast, if you think about it.

34) Out of the World Pt. I - Communion (1989)
Tuesday Jul 06, 2021
Tuesday Jul 06, 2021
An unlikely combination of early X-Files and the South Park where Cartman gets an anal probe, Communion had all the makings of a classic abduction tale. So what went wrong? Why is Mike the only person who’s heard of this movie? Are aliens real? Is Christopher Walken? All that and more in this ep of the Peabody Award-winning podcast Slow Motion Triple Feature!

Papa, can you hear me? Papa, can you see me? Papa, can you see me through the pod? Papa, how’re the levels? Papa, can you hear me? Papa, what about my other co-hosts?

32) Actor/Directors PT II - Big Night
Friday Jun 11, 2021
Friday Jun 11, 2021
For this moving meditation on brotherly love, the immigrant experience, and art vs. commerce, the Tooch brought together a powerhouse cast including Isabella Rossellini, Ian Holm, and Tony Shaloub—but we all agree that Marc Anthony, in a role with possibly no lines, walks away with the movie. Plus: a genius screenplay idea; Andrew gets mad at his wife for daring to vacuum their house while he’s podcasting; and we ask the immortal question, “Who else is ugly, Mike?”
